Sonnet 46

D&AD Student Awards, Lippa Pearce

William Shakespeare's sonnets can be interpreted in many ways determined by several factors, including historical relevance, emotional state and in this case, environment. The brief required the designer to use environment to direct the interpretation of any part of the sonnets. 'Mine eye and heart are at a mortal war' was the line of sonnet 46 chosen for this project and it was manifested into a tongue in cheek magazine advertisement to show the power of branding in our current society. It was juxtaposed with a Vivienne Westwood advertisement to demonstrate how blinding messages can be in everyday marketing.
